%X The goal of this paper was to identify the potential of vegetation indices obtained from orbital sensing data to discriminate leaf phenology of forest fragments and measure the effect of climatic variables in the characterization of vegetation. From Landsat 5 and 8 satellite data was determined Normalized Difference Vegetation Index for summer and winter seasons. Floristic data was also obtained for two Seasonal Forest fragments. Monthly averages for rainfall, global radiation and temperature were also obtained. The temperature and global radiation varies throughout the year, consistent with the seasonality recorded by NDVI. The NDVI values showed seasonality in both fragments, being more remarkable in the Deciduous Seasonal Forest. Also, the number of deciduous individuals was larger in the last forest type. Thus, NDVI can be regarded a good tool for indirect analysis of forest dynamics.
